What were the toning shoes?

Toning shoes were all the rage a while back. The makers of these shoes made remarkable promises for them. These claims varied from helping weight loss to getting rid of cellulite to firming the buttocks to solving sore backs. These shoes were built with a rocker on the sole aimed at increasing muscle activity to get those believed benefits. Unfortunately, the science just didn't back the alleged benefits and there was a lot of litigation from disgruntled customers and several companies were forced to negotiate multi-million dollar settlements with the Ftc.

While all of that is in the past there are still a few of these toning shoes on the market and they still do have some support from those people who are acquainted with the shoes. Toning shoes can change the way that you move and then for some people that could sometimes result in an improvement in some things like sore backs. At the same time, it may make some people with low back pain feel worse. There is a lot of effort being geared towards investigating precisely what toning shoes do and exactly who can benefit from them and who could be hurt by them. Each person are going to respond in different ways the shoe.

Podiatrists seem to especially like these sorts of toning shoes because of the type of patients that they see. The rocker sole design of the shoe makes them especially useful for those with a painful big toe joint, as with these shoes the joint doesn't have to move as much. However, while that may be helpful for that joint it does put more strain on the ankle joint so may create or make more painful issues at the ankle joint. It was issues like this that led to the litigation issues in the past and need to be carefully considered by anyone suggesting or using these shoes. They do have their uses and they may help for the right people with the appropriate condition.
