Batteries

Considering that digital cameras depend on batteries, it is worth to learn some things about using batteries with your photo equipment.

  1. Alkaline Batteries – Alkaline and Mignon batteries should be taken out of the camera, and also all the other electric equipment that use batteries like that, if they are not used often. Saying this, I don't mean two months, I mean two weeks. If you leave the batteries like these in the camera, they may leak and the chemicals from it can destroy the electronic part of your camera.

  2. NiCd and NiMh – Although it's recommended to take the alkaline batteries out of your camera, NiCd (Nickel-Cadmium) and NiMh (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries you don't have to, as these kind of batteries will not leak, not even the charged and unused ones.

  3. Never MIX – You should never mix alkaline and rechargeable batteries together as that can cause damage to the electronic part of the camera. Alkaline batteries have 1.5V, while the rechargeable 1.2V

  4. Rechargeable Batteries – With new batteries it's recommended to discharge them all the way and then keep charging them continuously for 10-12 hours. Reason for that is that the battery capacity should be used entirely.
